Founded in 2009, Kumabe HR was developed as a response to a tremendous need for executive level recruitment and human resource expertise in Hawaii organizations spanning the government, non-profit and private sectors. Kumabe HR offers an integrated suite of leadership advisory services in developing frameworks and solutions that are customized around organizational objectives and HR capability needs.
To date, Kumabe HR has provided human resources services for Hawaii’s largest employers as well as small boutique businesses and continues to provide state of the art human resource solutions from a menu of human resources applications that suit the directives of the leadership. Kumabe HR strives to provide excellence in human resources management by providing effective and cutting edge best practices in order to assist organizations in achieving overall success.
Principal and Owner, Marie oversees the Executive Recruitment and Human Resource Consulting Division.
Marie comes with 25 years of experience in business, with 15 years specifically dedicated to executive search, human resource consulting and staffing. Her impressive credentials, exceptional skill and commitment to the success of her clients has resulted in a loyal and growing base of clients who trust her to execute their human resources and executive search needs discreetly and effectively. Marie is a recognized leader in Hawaii in the field of staffing and human resources as is demonstrated by her thriving firm and her appointment as the current Faculty Director for the Masters of Human Resources Management program at the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii.
Throughout her career, Marie has always made giving back to community a top priority, serving on the board of directors of several community organizations. She currently serves on the Board for Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, the University of Hawaii’s Travel Industry Management Alumni Association, Nuuanu YMCA and as an advisor for Girl Scouts of Hawai`i.
Marie earned her undergraduate degree in International Business from UCLA and a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management.
Kara oversees Kumabe HR’s Staffing Division and internal operations. With over fifteen years of experience in human resources, including talent acquisition, staffing, employee relations and training & development, she is an effective leader and great resource for our client companies and employees. She ensures that our clients receive the highest quality of services so that they can identify and attain top level talent for their organizations’ success.
Kara received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources and an Executive Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Hawaii, Shidler College of Business. She has extensive community involvement, currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce, Atherton YMCA, UH Shidler College of Business Alumni Association, and Sakura Hawaii Alumnae . Kara is also active with the Society of Human Resource Management and has been a tremendous supporter of student organizations over the years.
Kim is a passionate HR professional who focuses on special HR consulting projects and executive recruitment searches tailored to each client’s culture and business needs. Her expertise was gained from 18-years experience working in human resources and career development – including overall human resources strategy, talent attraction, staffing & retention, compensation & benefits, employee relations, performance management and leadership development.
Kim earned her undergraduate degree in Human Development from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and an Executive Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Hawaii, Shilder College of Business, which she believes gave her a deeper appreciation of people and business, enabling her to propose excellent matches that benefit both candidates and companies.
An active member of the community, Kim volunteers in various capacities at several nonprofit organizations including Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, IHS and Palama Settlement.
Marcia is a recognized Human Resources Professional with over 40 years of Executive experience primarily involving strategic leadership of employee relations, labor relations, benefits, self-Insured insurance and health plans, payroll systems, staffing, training and leadership development. Most recently, she was with Charter Communications, aka, Oceanic Time Warner Cable, as Vice President of Human Resources. Marcia earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the Shidler College of Business in Human Resources and Management. She served as a Trustee for the IBEW 1186 Pension and Training Funds, and was a Member of the Board of the Boys and Girls and the Nuuanu YMCA. Today, she continues on the Board of Managers for the Nuuanu YMCA as a member of the Governance Committee and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Masters in Human Resources Program at the Shidler College of Business.
Her philosophy of staffing an organization with the right people, then training and developing of those assets is the key to business success. Marcia’s passion for getting the right people in the right seats is why her addition to KumabeHR is a benefit to the organization and our clients.
Senior Executive Recruiter
Linell Sylvester, Director of Human Resources, joined Kumabe HR in 2012 and manages our HR Compliance and Training Division. Her primary responsibilities include partnering with clients to service and deliver HR best practices, payroll and benefits administration, training and development, labor and employee relations. Linell’s most recent accomplishments include expanding our HR Consulting client repertoire to include international clients with over 2,000 employees and becoming a certified facilitator for Everything DiSC® training sessions.
Linell has a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Hawaii at West Oahu and an Executive Masters in Human Resources Management from the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Prior to joining Kumabe HR, Linell spent over ten years with M.A.C. Cosmetics and served in various areas including sales management, artist training and development, and recruitment.
Kristine is an instrumental part of the Staffing Division with over 5 years of experience in human resources and customer service. She is also responsible for administering employee benefits and orchestrating career fairs and community outreach events. Kristine received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources and an Executive Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from University of Hawaii at Manoa, Shidler College of Business.
Kristine values community involvement and currently serves on the Board for the Society of Human Resource Management Hawaii as the Chair of Young Professionals. In addition, Kristine continues to support the Society of Human Resource Management, Aloha Chapter and the Business Executive Society of Tomorrow at the University of Hawaii Manoa as she is an avid alumnus for both organizations.
Glenda is a key team member of the Staffing Division with over 5 years of experience in human resources. She is also responsible for managing payroll activities and employee records.
Glenda earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in Human Resources and her Executive Master's in Human Resource Management from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Shidler College of Business. She serves on the IT and Communications Committee for Hawaii Compensation Group, is an active member of Society of Human Resource Management of Hawaii’s Young Professionals Group and serves on various committees for the Kaimuki Business Professional Association. Glenda’s passion for community outreach is also demonstrated by her involvement with student clubs at local universities and with Nanakuli High and Intermediate School.
Sonia is the newest addition to the Staffing Division and currently pursuing her Masters in HR Management at the UH Shidler College of Business. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Women’s & Gender Studies from Santa Clara University in California and transitioned to O’ahu to further her education and career in Human Resources. Sonia is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management Hawaii Chapter and is continuously expanding her network in the local community.
Prior to joining Kumabe HR, Sonia spent almost three years managing a privately-owned wellness clinic in the Bay Area. This paved the way for Sonia’s HR passion as she thrives knowing she can help others realize their professional potential through learning & development, organizational development and community engagement.
